Glass drill bits

Glass drill bits: for drilling the glass window pane - $5 - $20 each

A larger diamond coated core glass drill bit on the left and a diamond coated drum glass drill bit on the right. Purchased from your local hardware stores or online.
This was the only component purchased online for the kits which we assemble and sell. Although various glass drill bit types and sizes can be purchased from the hardware stores, these were purchased online for economic reasons.
Glass diamond coated 4mm cylindrical (drum) rotary drill bits (120 medium grit) (1/8th inch shank) were purchased on ebay. They will fit any drill including a rotary Dremel with an 1/8 inch collet. The grit is fine enough to not shatter older brittle glass.
The glass diamond coated 4mm cylindrical (drum) rotary drill bits work the best for this application. However, you can substitute diamond core coated drill bits, but you must be more careful keeping the drill at 90 degrees to the glass surface so as not to crack the glass while drilling. The cylindrical (drum) rotary drill bits are more forgiving.
While we find the 4mm diamond coated drill bits are the optimum size for the tubing and venting plugs we use in our kits, a 3/16th inch (5mm) diamond coated cylindrical (drum) or diamond core coated drill bit would also work. Just be careful not to make the hole too oversized while drilling.
Carbide tipped glass and tile bits were not tested but may also work. No matter what type you use they range in price from $5 - $20 a drill bit.
